This article, a shortened version of a detailed article in TES magazine, explains the creation of GCSE and A level examinations. This is a mystery to many, but is a familiar process to several members of the team behind our Free School proposal. Pauline is one of the team who has had 25 years' experience as a principal examiner for A level Biology. She would disagree slightly with this author, who appears to suggest that there is a lot of flexibility in choosing the topics for examination. Her experience is that she has always had to prepare a detailed specification grid, showing that a question is set on every section of the specification, as well as showing that the questions vary in the demands made of students. www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-views/creation-exam-paper-start-finish ...
